This is how Nicky’s class assignment begins. However, Nicky has never been on a seaside holiday. His story is different. His mother is diagnosed with mental illness, his father is unknown. A year ago, the judiciary powers decide to assign him to the SOS foster family of Joro and Vanya, after Nicky had spent some time in different temporary homes. Communicating with him was a difficult task in the beginning but the tranquil family environment, the patience of his foster parents, and playing with his new brothers and sisters gradually helped him to start feeling at home.

Nicky’s story still does not have a happy ending. The adaptation process to a new environment, habits, and family is not an easy one. We know how important purposeful individual help, tackling specific psychological issues and traumas, is. Moreover, this help is not enough and in order to start recovering a child has to experience positive emotions, collect beautiful memories and learn how to be happy. 

We need your help in providing the kids we care for with the opportunity for a happy summer holiday: excursions and summer camps for the kids in our foster homes at Sofia, Pernik and Tryavna and for our kids at the SOS youth facilities in Sofia and Veliko Tarnovo; summer activities for children and parents, which we help at our SOS Centers in Sofia, Pernik, Veliko Tarnovo and Gabrovo.
